TIMBERS/THORNS NORTH FC JOIN THE WPL

SEATTLE - May 26, 2021 - The WPL is excited to announce that the Timbers-Thorns North FC is returning to the Washington Premier League and will be putting its top teams into the new WA Super League.

Timbers-Thorns will be leaving the Washington Youth Soccer and the Regional Club League (RCL) following several years of competing in that organization.

"We are excited to return to the Washington Premier League and join the Super League," says Timbers Thorns North FC Technical Director Mike Thompson.

“With a Regional travel format, the high club standards, great competition, we believe the that the Super League will be a great fit for our soccer community. We like the NPL structure and are excited to be a part of it," Thompson said.

The new WA Super League will be a place for clubs from all backgrounds and affiliations to unite under a new statewide league that promotes high standards with less travel. This saves clubs, players and parents significant time and money – especially if traveling out of state for league matches.

"We want to welcome Timbers-Thorns back to the WPL family," said WPL president Stanley Holmes. "The Timbers-Thorns under coaching director Mike Thompson has built one of the strongest soccer clubs in the Northwest.

"We are honored that Mike and his staff have decided to put their trust in us," Holmes said. "We believe the WA Super League will be a great fit for his elite group and the WPL will be a solid home for some of his other teams."

The Timbers-Thorns North hail from Coeur d'Alene, and dominate the North Idaho youth soccer landscape. Their top teams have competed on the regional and national stages.

They have produced players who have played for Boise State University, Washington State University, Oregon State University, Gonzaga University, Seattle Pacific University, University of Montana, among other colleges at all levels.

The WA Super League will replace the WNPL format and will be the qualifying league for the NPL national tournament platform. The new Super League will require higher standards and a bigger commitment to creating an elite statewide competitive platform.

The WA Super League is part of the sweeping changes that the WPL is taking to better service our clubs from the bottom to the top. The aim is to build a stronger future for competitive soccer clubs in Washington state and the Northwest.

Watch for more announcements in the coming weeks!
